Published on March 12, 2024 by Brian Dvorak

As you may know, the new Microsoft Teams desktop app has been available to upgrade on your devices in the recent weeks. We have some important new updates regarding the permanent switch to the New Microsoft Teams that you will want to know.

Opt-In Until March 19, 2024

The new Teams desktop app is currently available for you to switch on at your convenience. You will find the opt-in switch at the top left corner of the Teams app. All users, including students and staff will be switched to the New Teams app on March 19, 2024. This will give us the opportunity to complete the transition prior to spring break, thus avoiding a sudden switch on the first day back to school.

Option to Switch Back to Teams Classic

If necessary, you will have the option to switch back to Classic Teams, but only for a limited time. You will find the switch back option in the (…) more menu at the top right. This video shows how to switch back to Teams Classic. You will also find that Classic Teams is still an installed app on your device.

Update Button

Be sure to look out for the prominent ‘Update’ button at the top right corner of the new Teams app. You may see an available update right after the initial switch.

New Features and Improved Performance

Enjoy a faster load and response time with the new Teams, as it is designed to use fewer system resources. Exciting new features include OneDrive app integration and enhanced Channel Posts with the ability to sort posts, pop out conversations to a window, and Announcement design powered by AI. Technical Support

If you encounter any issues with the new Teams, our support team is here to assist you. Please create a support ticket as usual at [go/support].

We appreciate your cooperation during this transition period. The new Microsoft Teams desktop app is designed to provide a more seamless and efficient collaboration experience, and we are confident that you will find these enhancements beneficial.
